In her late thirties, my wife's ability to cope with pollutants failed ominously. The slightest hint of dust, cologne, perfume, dryer sheets, detergent smells, cleansers, tobacco smoke, diesel fumes, and a myriad of other substances sent her into fits of violent coughing, sneezing, and uncontrollable tears which left her unable to talk.
